March Preview

Dear friends,

March is upon us, so it's time for a sneak preview of our upcoming monthly theme, and an overview of a few planned stops.

Trends in Publishing will be our focus the latter half of the month and we'll include changes in self-publishing, what's new with e-books, the strong move toward using apps, and the coolest indie publishers. We'll also touch on how indie authors are restyling their writing lives to take advantage of all the new opportunities in publishing today.

We'll have an opportunity to visit with Jeffrey Marks, whom many of you know for his award-winning books about the mystery genre, as well as numerous online support groups like Murder Must Advertise. He has an update and revised marketing how-to that has now migrated to Kindle. It's called Intent To Sell: Marketing the Genre Novel. Leave it to Mr. Marks to stay up with the times!

I'll also share with you a cool project going on at the BBT Cafe, where the blog book tours alumnae members stay in touch, and share ideas and marketing efforts with each other. We're writing a short story collection called, The Corner Cafe. Starting March 1, several members will teach the rest of us how to format the book for Kindle and other e-book venues. Then we'll have a second class and learn how to use CreateSpace to develop a POD book of the same title. When we're finished with our book, we'll market it to the world through the best blog book tour that ever was! Blog book tours are a long-term trend in publishing that seem to be alive and well, which couldn't make me any happier. I thought they were a brilliant way to market a book from the first time I heard of the idea.

It's also Small Press Month, so be sure to celebrate!

Until later,

Dani

  4. Wow, sounds like a crazy busy month. Especially if you throw in March Madness and St. Paddy's Day - which I always do, of course.

I'll have to be sure to come back because - as a good teaser should - it pretty much all sounds pretty interesting.

(Whoops, did that word repetition thing there.)

And with the March Madness and St. Paddy's Day I was already looking forward to March - but now even more so.

  7. I'll be reporting back on some publishing trends after the mid-month Write Stuff conference in Allentown, PA. I'm psyched—our keynote is James Scott Bell, best-selling suspense novelist and author of many favorite writing guides, including his newest, Conflict and Suspense! I'll be taking his 1-1/2 day Novel and Screenwriting Intensive.
