Reading a new book in a beloved series is like settling down with a nice cuppa to chat with an old friend. And who couldn’t use a little bit of that kind of comfort during a pandemic, when meeting face-to-face with living friends is dicey business?
So, without more ado, here are some lists that list “best of” series in various genres.
Kids looooove series. I have fond memories of taking my two to the local library and having them tote home stacks books from the Magic Treehouse and Captain Underpants series (among others). Here are some lists if your littles (or "grand-littles") are running low on their favorites.
Let’s start with a little ROMANCE (since we are closing in on February):
- She Reads Romance Books lists The Best Romance Series to Binge Read (I’ve read very few romances but will admit I’m rather fascinated by the mention of a series featuring a family of “bearded men of Tennessee.” Who would've guessed you could make a series based on bearded men???)
- Bookriot offers 19 of the Best Romance Book Series for Adult Readers
- Goodreads gets into the act with Listopia’s Best Adult Romance Series
- Bookbub lists 13 of the Best Mystery Series to Read Right Now
- Back we go to Bookriot, for 16 Mystery Book Series that Keep the Twists Coming
- Bustle bustles in with 13 Addictive Mystery Series that Will Pull You In & Never Let Go
And let's not forget the kids!
- Today's Parent has 24 Awesome Chapter Book Series for Children
- Barnes & Noble recommends 5 Chapter Book Series for Young Mystery Lovers
- Reedsy swaggers in with a “mega-guide” of 100 Best Fantasy Series Ever
- Fantasy Book Review isn’t too far behind with The Best Fantasy Book Series
- Best Science Fiction Books offers up The Top 25 Science Fiction That’s a Series (If you check out the sidebar on this page, you’ll see they have MANY more “Best SF” lists, including Best SF by Women, Best SF Graphic Novels, Best Kids’ Science Fiction, etc.)
Ann Parker authors the award-winning Silver Rush historical mystery series published by Poisoned Pen Press, an imprint of Sourcebooks. I have a few series that I've read over the years. Some I lost interest in after about book 11, like Janet Evanovich's series because it got too silly. Same with Lee Child's Jack Reacher series though not because it was silly, just not captivating. I love Daniel Silva and have read most of his Gabriel Allon. The latest, "The Order" is one of his best. I've read series by Baldacci, John Sandford, Robert Ludlum, Robert Crais, and James Lee Burke, among others. When I find someone I enjoy reading, I keep reading until I lose interest. I don't switch genres much. I like what I like.
ReplyDeleteHi Polly! So, would you recommend Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon? I haven't read any of those. I should put them on my list.
DeleteDefinitely. He's an excellent writer, and his character is multi-talented: an artist, art restorer, assassin, spy. The locations are some of my favorites, especially Italy.
DeleteThanks Ann, but my TBR list soon will exceed what I have managed to read.
ReplyDeleteFavorites : all of the Charles Todd series and Charles Finch. It goes without saying that the Silver Rush Mysteries should be on every list
Awww, thank you, Liz! :-}
DeleteWhich Todd series do you like? Ian Rutledge or Bess Crawford? (Or both?)
Both series, but wish there were more of the Bess Crawford series.
DeleteAlso like Maisie Dobbs.
I'm going to have to check some of these series out. My brother reads series on a regular basis, but it's been several years since I have done that.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda!
DeleteYou have lots to choose from! :-)
I just checked my "Want to Read" number on Goodreads and discovered I'm up to 2,297 books. And now you give me lists? I think WTR will grow longer today. I'm especially intrigued by the bearded men in Tennessee romance series. :D
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia! You and me both! And I don't generally read romances, but I might just have to grab one of the "bearded men" and check it out. ;-)
DeleteAlways love these lists, but like Patricia my Wish List for books keeps growing far beyond what I will probably ever be able to read in a lifetime. I was recently introduced to The Ballad series by Sharyn McCrumb, set in the south for the most part. I have The Rosewood Casket on hold at my library. I'm also intrigued by the bearded men of Tennessee.
ReplyDeleteHi Maryann! I read one of the ballad mysteries long ago... Ballad of Frankie Silver, maybe... Hmmm. I may have to re-visit that series and see if I can remember!
