The many faces of April, from April Fool's Day to Easter to "April showers bring May flowers." Claude Shafer (The Tacoma Times), Public Domain |
Let's start with mysteries. (After all, mysteries are basically designed to mess with readers' minds, and then jump out, shouting "Fooled you!" at the end.)
- We have this handful from the Cozy Mystery List.
- Hurray for Janet Rudolph, whose Mystery Fanfare blog always comes through for holiday/special day reads. April's Fool's is no exception.
- The blog Borrow.Read.Repeat. offers "Laugh-out-loud reads" for April Fool's Day.
- Listopia has Hoover Library's Insatiable Reads' April Fools (It's Always Good to Laugh) list, including Howl: A collection of the Best Contemporary Dog Wit and Henri, le Chat Noir: The Existential Musings of an Angst-Filled Cat, as well as I Was Told There'd Be Cake and Cake Wrecks: When Professional Cakes Go Hilariously Wrong.
- Mystery Fanfare's TAX DAY: Death and Taxes
- Listopia's Renewal: Easter and Passover Romances
- Listopia's Passover Books (for the younger set)
- Listopia's Easter Books (ditto)
If you have any April faves, be sure and let us know!
Ann Parker authors the award-winning Silver Rush historical mystery series published by Poisoned Pen Press. During the day, she wrangles words for a living as a science editor/writer and marketing communications specialist (which is basically a fancy term for "editor/writer"). Her midnight hours are devoted to scribbling fiction. Visit AnnParker.net for more information. |
"The Fool" is a key character in fantasy author Robin Hobb's uber-epic Realm of the Elderlings series (16 books, written over the course of 20 years). He remains one of my absolute favourite characters.
ReplyDeleteHi Elle! I think I might've read the first of this series, long ago. I shall have to take another look! ...so many books, so little time. :-)
DeleteGreat links, Ann. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Linda!
DeleteAnd my To Be Read List gets longer and longer. Thanks, Ann!
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of scary, right Pat? But I think it would be scarier to have NO TBR list at all... :-)
DeleteI had no idea there were so many books related to holiday themes until you started posting these, Ann. I have never been specifically drawn to a book based on a particular holiday as I tend to read in broader categories: mystery, relationships, women's fiction, biography. Still, it's interesting to see so many titles revolving around April Fools Day.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to research and explore. Also, I had no idea there were books with a "Tax Day" theme! The things I learn...
DeleteMy TBR list simply gets longer and longer. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteGreat research, Ann. Who knew. And to see so many books with the same name.
