Imagining our reaction to our own fear(s) certainly can give credibility to those of our characters, even if their fear is to something quite different.Linda Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16056682992943171805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-16479201072050026892019-10-17T20:53:59.211-06:002019-10-17T20:53:59.211-06:00Great post, Linda. We had a weapons' expert at one of our Sisters in Crime meeting, and I couldn't even lift the gun. The best we can do as writers is to imagine the fear and danger, and if we have to think about the thing we fear the most to make the dialogue/narrative more realistic, then we do it.Polly Iyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05729656119287702191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-29161163959186471252019-10-16T07:55:46.043-06:002019-10-16T07:55:46.043-06:00Interesting comment, Pat. My characters are always much braver than I am, though, so if bad guys were tracking me, I'd be cowering somewhere out of sight rather than facing them down in a gunfight.Patricia Stolteyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17192369425956406122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-91936351869391156082019-10-15T13:21:08.908-06:002019-10-15T13:21:08.908-06:00I like reading books in which I can feel what a ch...I like reading books in which I can feel what a character feels. That makes the story dance up off the pages and pull me into its mood and action. Hence, I try to write so that my readers feel my characters' emotions, whatever those happen to be.
