The book starts with Columbus and ends with Clinton, but different from most history books, it describes the history as seen from the position of ordinary people, not the kings and presidents. Maybe this was a little bit off the topic of your post, but it's a great book >:)<br /><br />A People's History of the United StatesCA Heavenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07558100567878233142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-7557787632899406962010-06-04T21:50:04.335-06:002010-06-04T21:50:04.335-06:00Yay Mark Haddon!Yay Mark Haddon!Jenn McKayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08096584277185808602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-57671740990037414622010-06-04T15:02:25.808-06:002010-06-04T15:02:25.808-06:00I'm also a fan of novels written in first pers...I'm also a fan of novels written in first person. When you compare that intimate POV to a third person omniscient narrator (The Scarlet Letter, for instance), it's easy to see how much closer we get to the first-person character.Patricia Stolteyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17192369425956406122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-65877786841294993422010-06-04T12:04:12.120-06:002010-06-04T12:04:12.120-06:00Thank you for this. If you have time, I invite you to read chapter one of my story 'Bertie's House. You'll find it in my profile. It has a Blog of its own.<br />Blessings, StarStella Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06699491230987143490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-45581124054822133462010-06-04T09:46:22.786-06:002010-06-04T09:46:22.786-06:00Excellent article, with great examples. If it doesn't move us, how will it move our readers? I'm smack dab in the process of revising a first draft told in first person. And as such - found this very helpful. I will print out this last to use as inspiration as I go. "And a carefully orchestrated journey that allows your character to see the world through new eyes by book’s end—an evolution in point of view—is the very definition of a satisfying read."<br />Thanks.Jan Morrisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01771180344305042855noreply@blogger.com
