If I'm having a bad-back week, I do stretches to try to alleviate the problem...which I wouldn't have if I'd follow all the advice here, do stretches and crunches regularly. I've been having some discomfort lately which I thought may be caused by my work at the computer.
It seems to disappear when I'm up and about more often. I have a laptop and I put it on a stand to raise it a bit, but it's still not eye level.

Charlotte, my son is not height-challenged, but if I sit in his desk chair, I feel like I'm sitting on the floor. He's six foot ten. I don't know whether he positions his chair that way so he's eye level with the monitor or so his knees will fit under the desk.Helen Gingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09794759602654727110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-14110460978957273662008-11-12T05:15:00.000-07:002008-11-12T05:15:00.000-07:00I must be abnormally shaped or something. When I raise the chair so my arms are level with the desk, my feet are no where near the floor. For these reasons, I change positions fregquently. I have a flat box and an angled board handy for feet. When Mark isn't around, I steal his desktop monitor, hook that up to my pc and play with the many possible heights and positions. My back tells me when it's time to move around. I always get the message - loud and clear.

If there are any height-challenged people out there who have found the magic solution, please, please share.Charlotte Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09336641340221491792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-72383641667850284682008-11-11T18:53:00.000-07:002008-11-11T18:53:00.000-07:00Sometimes the slightest thing can set off a proble...Sometimes the slightest thing can set off a problem or fix a problem.

Morgan Mandel
http://morganmandel.blogspot.comMorgan Mandelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10118929301591850918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-8741566227667739142008-11-11T15:19:00.000-07:002008-11-11T15:19:00.000-07:00Actually I have to lean forward at the moment (and...Actually I have to lean forward at the moment (and for the next four months), and try to have my knees lower than my hips. It's called Optimal Foetal Positioning. And if I could get hold of a kneeling chair that didn't cost thousands of dollars I would be even more optimally positioned.Elle Carter Nealhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02266309723919011181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-39786125472128223582008-11-11T14:49:00.000-07:002008-11-11T14:49:00.000-07:00Almost all my "pain-in-the-neck" problems disappea...Almost all my "pain-in-the-neck" problems disappeared when I got a laptop. It seems to help me to look down toward the screen, and also helps to have my elbows on the arms of a chair. No neck pain, no wrist pain at all since those changes. Who would have guessed it could be that easy. It wasn't aging at all - just improper posture.

Thanks, Morgan. If you're a bit on the short-ish side, like me, it's better to have your feet placed on something a few inches up from floor height if you can't reach the floor comfortably (I like my chair higher so it's a more convenient height for my desk). It's supposed to ease any pains in the back of the thighs and numb-bum-ness caused by bad circulation.Kit Courteneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07211606676705095432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-68619302988112833942008-11-11T05:18:00.000-07:002008-11-11T05:18:00.000-07:00Try to have your monitor at eye level.
