The creative desire remained, but the energy to take on additional projects was lacking. And certainly, I didn't resent either necessary activity. Now it's time to see if enough energy remains to fuel the creative fire that has been waiting in the wings with only brief appearances. Perhaps this is why truly great artists have so often lived lonely lives on the brink of insanity. Really something to think about: Can you speak your truth? Can you hold your ground when someone speaks against it? I do think it's hard to focus and do justice to more than one at a time. I can't switch between painting and writing very easily - at least not to work on serious pieces - but I usually have some creative outlet unrelated to my serious work. It might be a craft like knitting, but it's some sort of counterpoint to the main focus.Danihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14471919576687777886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-36965241963379361832013-05-01T13:58:02.577-06:002013-05-01T13:58:02.577-06:00Very interesting post, and the comments have been ...Very interesting post, and the comments have been insightful as well. I have another good friend who is a visual artist primarily, but has also written some outstanding short pieces that absolutely blow me away. I have encouraged her to pursue writing professionally and her response to me has always been that her writing is what helps her become a better artist. Interesting response.

I've thought a lot about this connection between creative endeavors lately and wonder if we, like Mary said, use one to strengthen the other. I love to dabble a bit with painting, and I do a lot of acting, but I would never try to pursue a career in either, even though some folks have said I could.

Even though we may have many talents, maybe we are really only supposed to follow one professionally.Maryannwriteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09479027709233807149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704943052235281766.post-31024042992984627662013-05-01T13:39:56.851-06:002013-05-01T13:39:56.851-06:00You people and your Eating Keys! Balancing passion and empathy isn't easy (you've seen me screw it up in this very space). It's a weighty problem, especially when friends and family are involved, but I'll wager that "safety" of topics is not the dominant factor in your temperance in print. I know from dealing with you online that The Empathy Key is already part of your life, so demonizing hard-working individuals isn't your go-to trait. Good on ya.
