New Inspirations at Lore Forge

The best thing about the New Year for me is... well, the feeling of newness, of turning a new page and starting with fresh enthusiasm, even for old projects. Often it helps to find a new tool or new method to apply, which is why I was so thrilled to find Lore Forge.

Created by Daniel Donche, a writer and artist I discovered via my book's protagonist, Lore Forge is still in development, but here are three things I already like about it.

1. Daily Facebook and Twitter prompts like this to help get your writing energies flowing.

2. The growing database of articles useful for writers. Would you like to see a helpful list of of gestures humans make? Or different emotions and character traits? What to call that street? This is the place.

3. The random comflict generator and motive generator to really stimulate your writing.

Coming soon is an even more intriguing idea - an interactive discussion forum for your book characters. I've already added my protagonist, J. Lindsey Calhoun, and I'm hoping he'll starting talking a lot so I can get a real sense of his voice - I'm challenged writing dialogue from a male perspective and I think the forum will help me develop his and have fun at the same time. I'll write more about that when the forum is up and running. Or maybe I'll have J. Lindsey Calhoun tell you about it.

So let's go back to the first Lore Forge prompt at the top of the page. What are your specific writing goals for 2015? Please leave us a comment!

Dani Greer is founding member of the Blood-Red Pencil, and plans to spend 2015 writing and publishing her own books. You can connect with her on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and on her News From Nowhere book blog.

  1. Sounds like an interesting place to visit. My goal for 2015 is to work less, enjoy more. We'll see how that works out.

  2. My specific writing goals are to finish the two books I have in the works. I started the third book in the Seasons Mystery Series almost two years ago and abandoned it when life threw me a major curve. Then last spring I started working on a new book that my muse gifted me with. Both are about half finished, so I plan to finish them both this year.

  3. My writing goal is to make 'significant' progress on tome #3. I'll admit that is not very specific, Dani ... but homey doesn't like to get boxed in ... he gets very uncomfortable ... and, evidently starts talking about himself in the third person.

  4. Awesome, thanks for the mention, Dani. I just want to help people write better stories and create better characters. Everybody wins that way.

  5. I plan to write two books this year. I'm about 2/3 done with the first draft of the first. For the second, I have yet to decide whether it will be another in one of my series, or if I want to try something new. I also plan to attend 3 conferences; one is finalized, one is 'planning on it' and the third is TBD. Thirdly, I plan to organize my marketing strategies.

  6. Wow, ambitious goals! I plan to write minimum 1,000 words per day of new material and self-publish at least two languishing projects.

  7. Goal #1: It's well past time to break the procrastination habit--aka letting everything get in the way of writing.
Goal #2: Finish the revisions of two previously published novels and finish writing at least two of the several books that are already under way.
