Farewell Faithful Readers

After almost five glorious years of daily posting, we are closing the Blood-Red Pencil blog.

Now that I've gotten that out of my system, let's get down to business! I don't know what you have planned for April, but it's a busy month for me.

I've wrapped up some winter projects and am ready to set my sights on new things (isn't that what spring is all about?), so I'm participating in the A-Z Blogging Challenge to goose my News From Nowhere blog. It's the platform I intend to use to promote a mystery novel trilogy I'm imagineering, with publication planned for two years in the future.

To that end, I'll also be participating in Camp NaNoWriMo in an attempt to crank out 50,000 words over the next 30 days. I know many people don't think this is a good way to write anything of worth, but it gives me something tangible to work with, which in my book is worth a lot more than nothing. Otherwise I'd moodle forever and never get one word down on paper. I'm just not one of those on-task-write-every-day-without-issue types of writers. Are you?

Before I knuckle down though, I'll do one more very important thing. Decorate a certain someone's office for April Fool's Day. Or is it April Fools' Day? Or April Fools Day? Well, no matter. Leave us a comment and tell us what harmless pranks you intend to play today. Even better, share what important projects you have planned for April.

Dani Greer is founding member of this blog. She looks forward to new writing and editing projects, dreams of planting gardens, and always always can be found knitting yet another pair of socks.

  1. I love your blog and I am really sorry to see it go. Best wishes for all future projects!

  2. Oh, phew!

So, do you want to use Word 2007 to crank out these 50K words? Do you want to skip ahead to the writing section rather than planning? Or should I stow my nagging and mark my calendar for the first Monday in May? ;-)

As for me, I'm going to be looking for some beta-readers in a week or so. Will be very excited to have other eyes on this. In order not to bite my nails down to quick while I'm waiting for opinions, I'm going to curl up with Hunger Games - have been itching to read that one for ages.

Oh, and knitting, now that the weather is cooler. My s-i-l is having a zero-birthday this year and I've got something nice I want to knit for her.

I've surprised myself and developed into a write-(or-edit)-every-day writer, but only for a couple hundred words. Still, I got a novel written that way with small children underfoot/on lap.

  3. I fall for these every time. I was about to write "Nooooooo!" Glad I don't have to. :D

  4. I read your post, Dani, on a feed with no graphics. How sad, I thought, one of the few blogs I read religiously. Then I clicked through and saw the pictures. Oh, wicked woman, trying to take years off the life of one of your fans, are you?

  5. You had me there for a second: seed starting and garden planning and writing, writing, writing. Good luck with all your projects.

  6. As April Fool pranks go, that was better than most. Made my heart skip a beat or two, but then you came clean and admitted you were only joking. :-)

April is the month I'm going to finish the last chapter of my book ... the infamous crappy first draft. That hurdle was supposed to have been jumped last December but, you know, life happens and plans have to be changed.

    Happy Easter Week!

  7. I plan to write, write, write -- as soon as I finish the last bits of editing that will let me realize what retirement really means.

  8. That first line should not be read before caffeine. Also the OCD in me is thinking about how long it would take me to pick up all those post-its during which I'd be plotting the jokester's demise ... fictionally, of course.

  9. This post made me do some serious soul-searching ... I realize that I have been far too frivolous, empty-headed and superficial in my comments here about ... from now on I'm only going to respond with the scholarship, thoughtfulness and gravitas the always excellent posts at BRP deserve.

  10. Ha ha, you got me.

I usually am the first one to work and put things in drawers to pop out, but this year I got the 2-8 shift and will need to be on my A game not to get pranked.

    So glad you're not quitting.

For some reason I thought Campmo was for young adult writers and I didn't sign up.

I need to really work on editing this month though with a little writing on another project.

    Happy April!

I hope you all meet your goals!

  11. Yes, you got me too until the graphic loaded, and I was also about to wail, "Nooooo!". Your site is one of my very few favorites for gleaning writing tips for my editing customers, and it would be terrible for you to stop now! :)

And you're an inspiration to other writers in planning ahead in April for NaNoWriMo! With a well-developed outline, you shouldn't have any problems.

  12. You got me, too, Dani. I read that opening and thought, "Why weren't the rest of us in the BRP office told?"

I loved the office decorations, but am glad you are far away from mine. I don't have time for clean-up. (smile)

As for my goals for April, I hope to complete the A to Z challenge, get past the play that I am in, and then get back to serious work on my next book.

  13. You sure stopped me in my tracks for a second. I was horrified.

I think your blogging and writing plan is excellent, Dani. I love the concentrated effort of NaNoWriMo and the A to Z Challenge rocks.

  14. Hahahaha. I had no idea I was so wicked, and it didn't occur to me the graphic wouldn't be right in your faces even before you read the first line. Oh dear. Yes, Elle, I'm working in Word 2007 too. It's also on my April Todo list to catch up on your W4W course. Christopher, don't you dare get serious on us! LOL.

  15. Very good April Fools joke, Dani. My April will be busy. Editing the next book and writing the one after, and still promoting Angel Sometimes. And let's don't even talk about doing a Spring cleaning of the house!

    ReplyDelete
  16. You had me going for a nano-second! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  17. I did NaNoWriMo once. I still have that story to finish! I made a vow to finish the ones I'd already started first, so one of these days that story will get done.

Good luck with yours. Maybe you'll do better!
