Writing Tips From the Funny Papers

Here we are again at our first Wednesday of the month feature. Enjoy!

Rat says to goat, "I'm expanding pig's vocabulary. Today's word was 'defenestration' which means the act of throwing someone out a window."

The next panel show a broken window. The third panel has rat saying, "Learning can be a painful process."

From Pickles:
Earl and his friend are playing checkers. Earl says, "It bugs me when people say "I could care less. What they really mean is  'I couldn't care less'. Meaning they have no interest in whatever it is. But if they say I could care less,' it means they have at least some interest in it. Pretty stupid, don't you think?"

His friend responds, "I could possibly care less, but I doubt it."

This next one from B.C. isn't about writing or books, but it's funny, and those of us who have tried to write around kids at home can relate.  Miss Know It All,  the advice columnist, gets a letter: "I'm three months pregnant... when can I expect my baby to move?"

Her answer: "If you're lucky, when he's eighteen."

Ralph and Grimmy are sitting next to a pretty  young poodle at obedience school. Grimmy says, "Whoa, Ralph, look who you're sitting next to. She's the new foreign exchange student here at school. You should go ask her out."

Ralph: "Me? But what do I say to a foreign student?"

Grimmy: "You'll think of something. Go on. Go on."

So Ralph goes over and says, "180 degrees longitude." Pretty poodle has a big question mark above her head.

Grimmy asks, "What was that?"

Ralph: "The International date line."

  3. Thanks for the chuckles, Maryann! Just so happens I came across one the other day (running down 2 flights to recycle bin to find, be right back...)

(...he, he she pants after climbing back up to her office...)

Loved this recent one in Shoe:

    Panel 1:
Cosmo: I wanted to be a doctor, but I couldn't stand the sight of blood.

    Bar patron #2: Oh?

    Panel 2:
Bar patron #2: I became a poet because I couldn't stand the sight of money.

Thanks for sharing that comic, Kathryn. I guess I missed that one. I usually look for those that have anything to do with writing.

  8. There is always room for improvement. I believe that people who wanted to learn will learn a lot of things and those who are closed for learning will not learn anything.
