Teamwork

I've often heard it said that writing is a lonely business, but when I really think about it, I know that it's actually a team effort. If you give it some thought, you'll likely agree. Consider all the members of your writing team:

  • Online groups like Book-in-a-Week
  • First readers
  • Critique groups online and live
  • Conferences
  • Listservs
  • Your family
  • Group blogs
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Your readers
Have I missed some? Leave us a comment if you think of others. The second half of this month, our theme here will be "teamwork", and we'll feature groups and ideas to help you in your writing life. Just in case you're lonely, you know?

  1. I, of course, would add: your editor.

  2. Editor not withstanding, the rest of the list still looks just like moi.

  3. Ginger! How could I forget that crucial person? :D I'm even going to write about electronic editing vs. telephone conference with your editor.

  4. I agree. At first writing is solitary, but it inevitably has to branch out to teamwork unless you're an enormously gifted author. Sometimes I feel like I'm cheating when I ask for help, such as in critiques, but then I realize it's the smart thing to do.

  5. My critique group is essential to me, as is my husband. The rest is my list too.

  6. I totally agree with Helen . . . and I posted my comment to that effect in the wrong place at 8:22 this morning, just four minutes after Helen said the same thing and put it in the right place. Duh . . . you'd think it was Monday.

  7. My first thought to "writing is a lonely business" was "No it's not. My characters keep me company!"
